Welcome to the Scum Pit.

You've probably driven by and seen the sign: SCUM PIT. "Huh," you wonder, "I've been looking for a cool Scum Pit to hang out at." Just stop in already! Scum Pit Comics is Albuquerque's newest comic and collectibles shop. Well, not BRAND new - formerly Lobo Comics & Toys, owner Mikee Riggs stepped in and rebranded at the beginning of this year.

Mikee's love affair with comics started at age five - a native of Baltimore, his dad took him to a convention and he walked out clutching a Web of Spider-Man holographic cover and an X-Men number one. He never really stopped after that. He read so much as a kid that his teachers called his mother in for a conference, saying he was reading at a college level! Yeah: something extraordinary was going on with this kid. He went on to work at nearly every comic shop in Albuquerque, and was employed in the local film industry when he realized he wanted to get back into the comic community. After dropping back into Lobo Comics part-time, Henry, the owner, decided it was time to retire and Mikee took the reins at the store he'd already poured years of his life into. "Comics are my first love, toys are my second, and my wife is third hahaha!" We won't tell her you said that Mikee. Promise!

It's all about Community

Mikee Riggs Owner of Scum Pit Comics

Mikee will be the first to tell you that selling comics and toys is just how the lights stay on. What he's actually building is a community hub, a place where collectors, artists, and curious newcomers can find their people. "I want to give people a place where they feel more connected... and can do more fun, niche things and find their passion." Monthly drawing classes, trivia nights, toy photography workshops, terrain building sessions: the programming at Scum Pit is growing fast, and the vibe's genuinely welcoming. As Mikee puts it, making friends as an adult gets easier when you're in a room full of people who love the same stuff you do: "If you're passionate about something and you can find someone that has that commonality with you, that's the first step."

Toys and Comics. All day, baby!

On top of running the shop, Mikee makes his own toys through an in-house line called KVLTVS (pronounced Cultus) and he just finished writing a 124-page comic book called Kvtlvs Rotten Futures, at the printer right now and headed to the store soon. The man does not sleep, and he's proud to admit that!

Coming up in May: Free Comic Book Day and then it's Mikee's own Decimation H Toy Show!

Stop in, poke around, and don't be surprised if you end up staying way longer than you planned. Hanging out in a Scum Pit CAN be great for your health!
